About Kalamazoo (Area) Bike Week

Kalamazoo Bike Week runs the Saturday before Mother’s Day through the following Saturday each year. The purpose of Kalamazoo (Area) Bike Week is to raise awareness, promote the use of bicycles (and other human powered vehicles) as a means of transportation, and to celebrate the possibilities cycling has to offer in terms of enjoyment, health, fitness, and its many social, environmental, economic and place-making benefits. Bike Week is an annual community event that supports this mission.

Bike Week started in 2012 as an initiative between the Parks Foundation of Kalamazoo County, Discover Kalamazoo, Downtown Kalamazoo Incorporated, local bicycle shops, club members, and local cycling enthusiasts. It would not be possible without a wide range and large number of local supporters. Our Supporters host, sponsor and facilitate events, and offer incentives to encourage people to attend and participate.  We also thank our many organizers, committee members and volunteers for all the work they to to make Bike Week a success!

The role of this web site is to publicize bike-related events and announcements we are made aware of in one handy place, encourage new ideas and support collaboration! Check out the Events page in May during Bike Week for bicycling related events and rides.  Join in the fun!

Want to check out Bike Week events? Click on the links to the events or contact our wonderful event organizers. The organizers are responsible for the events themselves and deserve all the credit. All deserve our thanks and support for their ongoing efforts to make our greater community even more bicycle friendly!

Want your event to be part of Bike Week? Check the calendar for news about public planning meetings and see our Organizer Info page. Help shape the celebration!

Want to share big bike-related news during Bike Week (that may not be an Event)? Find ideas on our Announcements page.

Want Bike Week to continue? Contribute on our Sponsors, Supporters and Donate pages!

Want to know about bike events throughout the year? Check out Bike Friendly Kalamazoo’s (BFK’s) Events page. BFK also plans a Fall Bike Celebration each year in the third week of September as a great seasonal “bookend” to Bike Week.

We wish you safe and happy riding during Bike Week, Bike Month and throughout the year.
Hope to see you out there!
