Want to become a more confident cyclist, and perhaps even become a League Certified Instructor so you can share your skills with others? Smart Cycling (also called Traffic Skills 101) outlines the basic rules of the road, components of a bicycle, and all of the information you need to ride a bike safely and confidently.
Paraphrased from the League of Michigan Bicyclists: The Traffic Skills 101 course provides an overview of how to ride safely and legally in traffic. It aims to give cyclists the confidence to ride more often and to more destinations. Specifically, the course topics include: bicycle laws, rules of the road, lane positioning, and crash prevention. This course will include an online component prior to the five-hour hands-on course focused on handling skills, emergency maneuvers, and on-the-road training. The online component must be completed prior to the on-the-road training.
This course is also the fundamental pre-requisite course on the way to becoming a League of American Bicyclists League Cycling Instructor (LCI).
