Kalamazoo Area Bike Week celebrates the many benefits and joys of bicycling in our greater community. It starts on the Saturday before Mothers Day and runs through the following Saturday. In 2025, Bike Week is May 10-17. Plus, May is National Bike Month, and includes Bike to Work Week and Bike to Work Day! Organizing Bike Week ramps up in January.

Bike Week underscoreS the role bicycling plays in building economically strong AND Physically & MENTALLY HEALTHY communities. Its value IS greater than any one event. OUR message for bicyclists and motorists alike is to ENJOY Life by practicing the golden rule WHILE following the rules of the road. We’RE in this together.

People are bicycling for fun, for basic transportation and to stay fit & healthy in greater numbers than ever. KBW includes many group events — others can be enjoyed with friends, solo or virtually. Many events show what our diverse and vibrant bicycling community offers throughout the year.

We start posting the current year’s events to the calendar in April. Scroll through the calendar (below) or further down this page to check them out. By late April and early May, new Events and Announcements are updated almost daily — so stay tuned. Interested in featuring an event? Check out the Organizer Info page for more information.

Best wishes for safe and happy bicycling during Bike Week and throughout the year!

Michigan Crash Facts 101

Join us for Michigan Crash Facts 101 in this virtual session on May 11 from 4-5pm.

This webinar will cover the Michigan Traffic Crash Facts (MTCF) website, which provides users with annual official Michigan crash data. There are two sections to the website: the Publications section that contains crash data statistics dating back to 1952; and the Data Query Tool, which allows users to perform advanced searches.

In March 2020 the Governor’s Traffic Safety Advisory Commission honored MTCF with the “Richard H. Austin Long-Term Service Award” for long-term contributions and commitment to traffic safety.

Presenters: Jessica Riley (Michigan’s Office of Highway Safety Planning) and Patrick Bowman (University of Michigan)

Our session leaders are experts in the field. The Office of Highway Safety Planning and the University of Michigan have been working together for 27 years to assist traffic safety individuals and agencies need to access traffic crash data to identify and analyze problems, implement countermeasures, and evaluate impact to improve safety on Michigan roadways.  Through this partnership we have been able to assist traffic safety advocates, planners, and the public with a website (https://www.michigantrafficcrashfacts.org/#), presentations to Action Teams and Traffic Safety Networks, bicyclist analysis reports and data trends have been produced, and continue growth based on feedback from our partners.

You won’t want to miss this session, which will focus on bike and motorist safety related information.

Advance registration is now closed, but you can join the meeting HERE.
